Wesley Buniger

Poet, writer and painter, Wesley Buniger was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on January 7, 1943. His biography, in his own words, follows:

Born into a Western Colorado Pioneer family of ranchers and farmers, merchantmen and skilled craftsmen, I nevertheless did not fit in and from the get go have led a four dimensional life of wandering through several levels of existence. Being aware of and surrounded by numerous catastrophes, I am quite conscious of the fact that I lead a charmed life. Early on I discovered that I can't be killed and with a given vision that came from other than my own endeavors, soon learned to stop pushing that particular envelope with the customary youthful death wish and cavalier attitude. "Becoming an observer, instead of the circus surrounding me, and eventually realizing I am just as much a part of the sideshow as anyone else, I still take comfort in the all pervading anonymity that invisibility affords me. Being a nobody has its merit. My hit and miss schooling has had no small amount of influence in this regard. The twenty five different schools I attended, guaranteed a spectrum-like smattering, some of which I was able to make use of in ameliorating most of the hard knocks of experience. Through all of this and because of it, I'll never stop learning. That's a given. "For forty years since 1947, I wondered what it was that made me different from other "kids" and why I was made to feel inadequate by society in general. Eventually, the psychiatric community came up with names to describe their discoveries, such as Autism, Scotopic syndrome, on and on. Even a name for the disease that laid me low when I was five and a half, called Viral Encephalitis. That one killed a lot of people. I remember being the only kid who walked away from that particular hospital ward. "After figuring out what is going on with me, I tried to hide the fact of my abilities of being a savant, for twenty years, after repercussions from the revelations I gave others that scared the crap out of them, especially down the line when what I told them came true. For the last ten years or so, I am no longer, because of health reasons, able to prevent people from catching on. And I guess I no longer care. "The poetry, free verse and short stories that I have been prompted to write down are meant to uplift everyone and be of benefit to their own personal awakening. Here is how it works: I become aware of an irresistible push to sit down and write what is about to be given. At first I place a legal pad on the table with a ballpoint pen across it and try to become quiet and focused on the job at hand, usually for a minute or two. Then, I pick up the pen and begin to write. I don't know what any of it is going to be, a poem, a story, or even where it is going, or what it is about. I just watch the words flow out of the pen. "Of course it is all written upside down and backwards. That is how it works for me. I read upside down also. I am now sixty eight years old and I am pretty sure my body is in Colorado at the moment. I don't know if any of this helps me to be understood. It sure isn't like any other bio I've ever read."

The poetry of savant, Wesley Buniger, never originally intended for publication, is written from within his own intensely personal experience of spiritual metamorphosis. The poems in this collection communicate in a way that words seldom can, the light and love of that secret place of deep knowing t ... Read More about
