Denny Bertrand

Denny Bertrand was born in southwest Colorado, and in fourth grade moved to Salida, Colorado. His dad was a state brand inspector, and his district covered three counties.

As a kid, Denny worked on ranches, spent some time caring for race horses, and worked at the local livestock auction. After high school and through the years, he worked on ranches, feedlots, and livestock markets in Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma. He also announced rodeo for thirty-seven years and produced ranch rodeos for three years.

As a kid in Salida, his neighbor was a well-known western author: Steve Frazee. Denny spent a lot of time with Steve and didn't realize the influence he had on him. Through the years, Mr. Bertrand had been writing western poems, when in 2010 he published his first book - Western Poetry With a Cowboy Flair. The book was selected as second place finalist and silver medallion winner from the Will Rogers Medallion Award. Denny began with poetry, but still had a desire to write fiction.

Mr. Bertrand now lives in Cortez, CO, he has three grown daughters and eight grandkids.
